365-13

Meet our other Jack Russell Terrier Birdie. She has already made her appearance in the picture with my son looking out the window. Now you can actually see her face and see her in full action…… a beggar. She loves to eat people food, even though we try not to let her, sometimes it is impossible not to. Birdie is a very special dog. She was my first baby (Dan and I got her a year before we were married) and she cheated death this past summer. Here’s the story….. Dan’s family was going down to Smith Mountain Lake to celebrate his grandmother’s birthday. I went down a day early and Dan came down the next day with the dogs. Birdie LOVES the water and played in it for approximately 4 hours straight. Because of this, she swallowed too much lake water. Dan came up and told me that something was wrong with Birdie. When I saw her, her eyes were green and glassed over and she was unresponsive. Because it was supper hot that day, we assumed that she had a heat stroke, so we put her in cold water. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! After about 45 minutes, she still wasn’t better, and I asked her if she wanted to go outside to go to the bathroom. As soon as she went to go, her legs locked up and she fell right over….almost seemed like a heart attack. I went into hysteria (mind you there were like 20 people at the house and I am 31 weeks pregnant) and Dan’s brother said take her to the vet. We got her in the truck and she went completely limp ( I thought she had died). Dan’s mother banged on her chest and blew into her snout. She took one deep breath and was breathing but only one breath every 10 seconds or so. Dan’s bother and Dan (Dan’s brother kept her alive while Dan drove) took her to the ER vet (1 hr away.. it was the closest one) and they made it just in time. She actually didn’t have heat stroke, she was borderline hypothermia with a temperature of 93, her pulse was 50 and it is supposed to be over 100 and her bladder was about to explode. They hooked her up to an incubator, gave her oxygen, hooked her up to a catheter to empty her bladder and gave her IV fluids. Her diagnosis was water intoxication. 3 LONG days later and after 25 calls to the vet ( I was calling every 3-4 hrs), Birdie could be picked up. After about a week she was back to normal and in better health than ever. So needless to say, Birdie has a special place in our hearts and our family loves her, even though she can get annoying sometimes. So the picture for project 365 is my wonderful baby Bridie. Picture stats 1/125, ISO 640 and 2.8.

As for running, I haven’t done it since Tuesday. I’m really bad, I’m getting back into it on Monday though! Stay tuned.
